Skycity Entertainment Group Confirms Interest
In Darwin Casino

New Zealand based gaming and entertainment company, SKYCITY Entertainment Group (SKC), today confirmed it is in discussions with the owners of the MGM Grand Darwin in Australia’s Northern Territory – Darwin’s only licensed casino and the territory’s largest.

The company confirmed that it is talking to the casino and entertainment complex’s current owners, Las Vegas-based MGM Mirage Inc., regarding the possibility of acquiring the business.

Managing Director of SKYCITY Entertainment Group, Evan Davies, said that SKYCITY had, for some time, expressed its interest in expanding its Australian operations and the Darwin casino represented an excellent opportunity for SKYCITY to consolidate its position in the Australian gaming sector.

SKYCITY Entertainment Group Limited is dual-listed on the ASX and NZX markets. It owns and/or operates gaming and entertainment complexes in Adelaide (South Australia), Auckland, Hamilton and Queenstown (New Zealand) and has a majority interest (74% fully diluted) in NZX-listed cinema exhibition company SKYCITY Leisure Limited and a 32.6% holding in ASX-listed on-line wagering company Canbet Limited.

The MGM Grand Darwin has 29 gaming tables, 450 gaming machines, a 107 room hotel, four restaurants and five bars.
