New broadcast frequency gives major boost to Triangle Television viewing numbers
Triangle Television's potential viewing audience has been given a significant boost due to the station securing additional broadcast spectrum allowing it to cover five more key Auckland suburbs.
UHF viewers in Remuera, One Tree Hill, Ellerslie, Newmarket and parts of Mt Eden, can now receive Triangle on UHF Channel 52 and can tune to the station immediately.
This increases the station's potential audience by over 160,000 viewers bringing its total potential audience to around 1.3 million - nearly one third of the total New Zealand population.
Triangle Television Chief Executive Jim Blackman says the station is delighted to fill what was previously a significant gap in its transmission area.
"It's a very exciting development because now Triangle will be broadcasting to virtually the whole of the Auckland region. As Auckland's only regional television station, we aim to meet the diverse television needs of Auckland's many communities. It is vital therefore that we broadcast to as much of Auckland as possible."
Mr Blackman says the penetration into the additional areas is seen as a further major development in the continued growth the station has seen during its five years of operation. It has recently been awarded a non-commercial channel in Wellington and is undertaking broadcast planning for that region as well.
Triangle Television has continued to expand with no financial support from successive New Zealand Governments or NZ on Air, despite ongoing promises.
"We rely solely on the determination of our programme providers and support from our viewers to meet our operational costs," said Mr Blackman.
