TGH to develop retail park with The Warehouse

Tainui Group Holdings Limited (TGH) today announced the development of a flagship retail park at Te Rapa on an ideal location alongside State Highway One into Hamilton.

In a joint venture with The Warehouse Group – which will anchor the site – it is anticipated construction will begin later in the year.

The site was formerly the Te Rapa Airforce base, will be promoted as “The Base” and will cover seventeen hectares of the site.

The multi-store development is a blend of retail and commercial services and provides Hamilton with another tremendous development project – the day after the $51m airport redevelopment was announced.

TGH Chief Executive Steve Murray says “our goal is to create a vibrant shopping destination for the Waikato that captures the opportunities offered by the increasing growth of the region.”

“This $50m retail development is expected to bring a number of economic benefits to the region and the project is the largest and most exciting our company has undertaken to date.”

Glen Inger, Property Director of The Warehouse, says, “The Warehouse is pleased with the partnership and we are looking forward to helping to develop this site with TGH. The Waikato region is an important part of our business where we already employ 580 people."

TGH is responsible for Tainui’s commercial assets and investments.
