Find Love for $20

Find Love for $20

Cantabrians can see for themselves if New Zealand Young Farmers is really ‘New Zealand’s premier rural dating agency’ by attending the Christchurch District Young Farmers speed dating ball on Saturday May 8.

A fundraiser for Christchurch District Young Farmers, the ball is open to anyone over 18, and will be held at Christchurch Netball Pavilion in Hagley Park. Tickets are $20 and the event includes speed dating and a live band, Barstuds.

Originally developed in the United States, speed dating involves equal numbers of males and females paired off for five minutes of conversation. When this ends, a bell is rung, and they move on to meet their next date. Participants take note of the people they are interested in meeting again. If the feeling is mutual, the organisers provide the couple with each others contact details. People also have the opportunity to dance and interact later in the evening.

Speed dating is different from the average bar scene as all participants have the same objective - to meet a potential love interest.

“For singles tired of bars or who don’t get to meet many potential partners, speed dating offers a fun and safe alternative,” says ball organiser and New Zealand Young Farmers Vice President Hilary Phillips.

Speed dating can cost between $70 and $90 but Christchurch District Young Farmers is including it in the price of the ball ticket.

“We realise that time is at a premium for most people and if McLeod's Daughters can do speed dating, then so can we. So get a group together and come along. For a few minutes effort you might find the love of your life,” says Miss Phillips.

New Zealand Young Farmers (NZYF) is a rural social group for people aged 15-31. Membership of NZYF offers young people pathways to friendship, achievement and knowledge. Run by young people for young people, NZYF welcomes members from all walks of life, not just farming.
