Tourism New Zealand Chairman Opens Rotorua's Newest Hotel - the Duxton Hotel Okawa Bay

The Chairman of Tourism New Zealand, Wally Stone, officially opened Rotorua's newest luxury hotel in a ceremony this afternoon.

Guests from Rotorua and around New Zealand gathered to commemorate the formal blessing and opening of Duxton Hotel Okawa Bay, led by landowners and local iwi, Ngati Pikiao.

Duxton Hotels' Regional General Manager (NZ) Simon Jamieson says the ceremony was a very special event for both guests and hotel staff.

"This property commands a unique position on the shores of beautiful Lake Rotoiti. We've worked really closely with Ngati Pikiao in the past eighteen months since purchasing and refurbishing the hotel. It was befitting and very special to have the iwi's blessing and celebrations at today's event," he says.

Chairman of Tourism New Zealand, Wally Stone, says that Duxton Hotel Okawa Bay is an example of the kind of quality accommodation that international visitors are looking for.

"We know that the sorts of people that enjoy the New Zealand tourism experience are extremely discerning and are looking for authentic, quality places to stay in an attractive setting. Duxton Hotel Okawa Bay is a prime example of this sort of accommodation," says Mr Stone.

Duxton Hotels International leased Okawa Bay Resort in September 2002. The first phase of the multi-million dollar refurbishment programme was completed in December last year and included the meticulous renovation of all 44 luxury guest-rooms, corridors, lobby/reception areas and a second conference room, seating up to 60 people.

The second phase of the refurbishment programme is well underway, with the upgrade of the restaurant and bar, and further landscaping of the grounds.

Situated in one of New Zealand's most picturesque locations, Mr Jamieson says the Hotel and its facilities make it an unforgettable location for product launches, conferences or executive retreats. The Hotel also caters for inbound visitors looking for an interactive experience, weddings and those simply seeking a luxurious, private break. Guests can enjoy a range of holistic products in each room and use of private hot pools accessed only by boat.

Duxton Hotel Okawa Bay Rotorua is easily accessed by road, just two and a half hours drive from Auckland, or 30 minutes by plane to Rotorua airport. The Hotel also features its own heli-pad.

"With stunning views, extensive grounds and well-appointed facilities the Duxton Hotel Okawa Bay Rotorua is the perfect place for a relaxing holiday or to celebrate a special occasion," says Mr Jamieson.

Duxton Hotel Okawa Bay Rotorua is a flagship hotel in the Rotorua region for the deluxe hotel group Duxton Hotels International, and its third New Zealand property.

"We pride ourselves on attention to detail and exceptional service and hope our guests leave feeling relaxed, rejuvenated and uplifted following their stay with us," says Mr Jamieson.

Duxton Hotel Okawa Bay Rotorua offers luxury comforts and accommodation, as well as space, tranquillity and bliss.
