New Sunday Magazine a First for NZ

New Sunday Magazine a First for NZ

From June 13th Sundays will get a whole lot better for hundreds of thousands of New Zealanders.

In a first for New Zealand, Sunday, a high quality, glossy 52 page magazine will be inserted in the award-winning Sunday Star-Times, a move the newspaper’s editor Cate Brett, describes as the most exciting development to happen in the newspaper industry for years.

“A ‘real’ magazine is now seen as an essential component of a fully fledged Sunday newspaper and something our readers were ready for. Our research tells us most readers are time poor six days of the week so on Sunday, their one day for relaxation, they expect something more from their newspaper. “Our new magazine will deliver that Sunday-difference, providing readers with a week’s worth of interest and escapism delivered with style and intelligence and taking the Sunday Star-Times to a new level.”

Award winning journalist Lauren Quaintance, assistant editor of the Sunday Star-Times and editor of Sunday says a tremendous amount of effort has gone into the development of the magazine to ensure it has credibility from day one.

“Sunday is the result of extensive collaboration between the teams at Sunday Star -Times and Fairfax Magazines to ensure we got it right. The fact it will be produced by the magazine division at Fairfax reinforces its status as a real magazine as opposed to a supplement.”

“We will be drawing on the journalistic talents of people at the Sunday Star-Times and various Fairfax magazines such as Cuisine to ensure we deliver a quality product. Sunday is also very good news for advertisers as they will have a superior product with high national penetration.

“We adopted a strategy last year to make the Sunday Star-Times an essential part of New Zealanders’ Sundays,” said Cate Brett. “Our recent award of Newspaper of the Year indicates this strategy is working well for us, and we anticipate the launch of Sunday should further enhance this.
