Wilson Logistics opens at Auckland Airport
Yet another business has joined the ever-growing community at Auckland International Airport. Recent newcomer Wilson Logistics officially opens an office/warehouse complex tonight in what is becoming an increasingly comprehensive airport city.
Wilson Logistics Group is Scandinavia's largest air- and sea-freight forwarding and logistics group. Wilson has 130 offices in 28 countries and employs 22 staff in Auckland
It is the 13th business to establish in the Airport Commercial Park, a dedicated area on the airport for larger commercial buildings such as office/warehouse logistic facilities and car rental companies. The Airport Commercial Park is just part of the wider airport community which now boasts over 300 businesses.
Wilson Logistics New Zealand managing director, Ray Manson, says that the airport was the obvious place for the company to be based, "It has all the attributes we needed - a great infrastructure, the best links with air transport services and is also a vibrant community in itself."
The Commercial Park fits into the airport's masterplan and because the first stage is almost full, the airport company has begun groundwork on another stage of commercial development, which can be seen north of the proposed northern runway and next to the main airport access road.
"Commercial property development uptake has been very positive," says Auckland International Airport Limited (AIAL) general manager of property Nick Ansley, "the buildings are all very high quality with access to good staff facilities, services and what is a very pleasant - and vibrant - environment for employees to work in.
"Just three years ago there were two companies based in the Commercial Park, now it's nearly full with 13. Property investment in the Commercial Park will amount to around $20 million this current financial year.
"We are now looking to expand our property development into the new area to the north. Initial groundwork has recently been completed to take advantage of suitable weather and work will begin in earnest over the next summer period."
Auckland Airport chief executive Don Huse says that the official opening of the new facility signals yet another positive for AIAL, "Not only are we seeing continuing strong growth in passenger numbers coming through the airport which is good for the entire country, but we have also seen a comparable expansion in our property and commercial businesses which add real value to the company.
"Wilson Logistics has joined the many other
companies that are enhancing their business by making
Auckland International Airport their home."
