The best of both worlds is the promise from P&O Cruises with the line's first ever sea and shore holiday deals to Queensland this summer - at prices that are surely hard to beat.
The company is offering 12-night fly, cruise and stay holidays out of Brisbane aboard P&O Cruises' Pacific Sky, starting at just NZ$1,499 quad share and $1,999 twin share.
The Queensland Cruising on Sale package includes return economy class airfares from Auckland flying Royal Brunei plus five nights' accommodation on either the Gold Coast or the Sunshine Coast.
The cruise takes in Australia's premier sailing playground in the Whitsundays, the tropical city of Cairns and the beach resorts of Port Douglas before returning to Brisbane via Willis Island, a beautiful Coral Sea sanctuary for protected sea birds and wildlife.
Fares include all main meals and entertainment onboard the ship, all ground transfers in Queensland and port charges as well as accommodation ashore.
Passengers have the choice of four post-cruise accommodation options, three of them on the Gold Coast. Departures are from Brisbane on Saturdays and the cruise is available between November this year and April 2005.
P&O Cruises says the value is hard to beat.
"This is a great holiday for Kiwis," says P&O's Shannon Currie, "who have a celebrated love for Queensland, and the cruise portion will give them a completely different perspective to the Sunshine State. It's a great way to get a snapshot of destinations that are traditionally seen as being hard to reach.
"The fares are truly amazing considering all the extras you get. Families should ask about our extra discounts for kids aged two to 17 years."
Aboard Pacific Sky, passengers can look forward to breakfast, full buffet lunch, five course dinners and theme nights as well as access to nine bars and lounges and the ship's cinema. There's a variety of live entertainment every night aboard the ship and each cabin has its own steward, all included in the fare.
The 46,000-ton Pacific Sky has three pools, a health spa, gym, ship-top jogging track, show lounge, cinema, casino, internet centre, nightclub, library, 24-hour pizzeria and a children's centre.
