Kiwi Milk Drinkers Benefit From Fortified Milk
International Study Shows Young Kiwi Milk Drinkers Benefit From Fortified Milk
Young kiwi milk drinkers are already benefiting from the results of an internationally recognised clinical study that showed fortified milk can prevent major childhood diseases.
Meadow Fresh General Manager Andrew Smith said the study findings provided support for enriched milk products, and that there are similar products already available to New Zealand milk consumers.
Meadow Fresh Calci Kids fresh milk and dairy food are high in calcium and also contain vitamins A and D. Meadow Fresh Toddler and Infant yoghurt contains the same probiotic culture used in the clinical study.
The study, lead by John Hopkins University School of Public Health Professor Sunil Sazawal, found that milk powder fortified with prebiotics and probiotics, or with a special combination of vitamins A, C, E and minerals iron, zinc, and selenium, has been proven to protect children against diarrhoea, respiratory infections, anaemia, sickness with high temperatures and ear infections. (For further information see New Zealand Milk news release entitled: Clinical study Proves Fortified Milk Powder Prevents Major Childhood Diseases).
"The rigorous testing that the fortified milk has gone through provides conclusive proof that brands fortified with prebiotics and probiotics, or with a special combination of vitamins A, C, E and minerals iron, zinc, and selenium, provide definite health benefits," Mr Smith said.
Milk products have long been regarded as an integral part of a growing kiwi kid's diet, and internationally New Zealand milk products are well known for providing high quality nutrition to consumers throughout Asia, the Middle East, New Zealand and Australia.
"We
have already recognised the benefits to consumers of
fortified milk products, and so this research provides a
platform for enhancing our current fortified milk brands for
children in the future."
