OLYMPIC GAMES BECKONS FOR TWO McDONALD'S CREW MEMBERS

McDonald's New Zealand is well known for its sponsorship of medal prospects Sarah Ulmer and Hamish Carter - but it's not only star athletes that are representing our country at the 2004 Olympic Games.

Tania Kare from Otahuhu and Dunedin local Robert Old are travelling to Athens to join over 500 of the company's best crew from 33 countries and serve athletes, coaches and fans as part of McDonald's Olympic Champion Crew programme. The crew will work at three special Olympic venue restaurant locations.

Tania (25 years) and Robert (22 years), both began working for McDonald's in 2001, were nominated by their respective managers for providing outstanding service. They were then selected by McDonald's New Zealand to represent our country in the Olympic Champion Crew programme.

"The Olympic Champion Crew programme recognises the achievements of our top crew who work hard every day to deliver the highest level of service to the customers who visit our restaurants daily," says Grainne Troute, Country Manager, McDonald's Restaurants NZ Ltd. "We are very proud of Tania and Robert, who will represent our country on this highly honoured team of top achievers."

The once in a lifetime trip, including airfares, accommodation and spending money, will see the pair working alongside crew from around the world - who might not speak the same language as them - but will know how to build a Big Mac.

"This is going to be an awesome experience," says Robert. "Having the opportunity to go to Athens, serving the athletes and sharing in the celebration of the Olympic Games as a part of the McDonald's team is like a dream come true."

McDonald's became an official Olympic sponsor in 1976 and has a long-standing commitment to the Olympic Movement.

The Athens Games mark the company's fourth Olympic Games as a TOP (The Olympic Partnership Programme) Global Sponsor and the fifth as the Official Restaurant of the Olympic Games. In 2004, McDonald's announced its renewal as a TOP Sponsor for an unprecedented eight consecutive years through the 2012 Games.

As part of its Olympic relationship, McDonald's New Zealand sponsored the New Zealand Olympic Committee "Road to Athens" Road Show - a celebration of the Olympic Movement, and was also a sponsor of this year's Olympic Day Run. The event saw around 100,000 students from more than 480 schools participating.
