Works Starts Today On $10 Million Dollar Luxury Lodge
The first sod will be turned today at the multi-million dollar up-market lodge development at Terrace Downs High Country Resort in Canterbury.
The Lodge at Terrace Downs is the next stage of development at the 256ha resort and all 22 luxury suites have been pre-sold to New Zealanders and offshore buyers. The 2400 sq/m lodge will sit high on a ridge overlooking the Resort’s golf course and Mount Hutt.
The Lodge at Terrace Downs will offer super deluxe accommodation and cater for business meetings, conferences and functions for up to 200 guests. The new facilities are scheduled for opening in spring of next year.
75 international conference and incentive planners will be at the site for today’s turning of the sod.
Terrace Downs is the country’s only high country resort and is nestled amongst the mountains at the tip of the Southern Alps perched on the terraces above the Rakaia River Gorge. The Resort boasts spectacular panoramic views and a challenging golf course that is widely regarded as being amongst the top three in New Zealand.
“We are already seeing demand from the business sector and conference and meetings industry for an up-market lodge facility that is easily accessible from an airport (Christchurch Airport is only 50 minutes drive), where people can hold their conferences, meetings and functions away from the stresses and pressures of the city. Our location in the heart of the high country is a major selling point,” says Managing Director Scott Sanders.
“Terrace Downs High Country Resort is already seeing an increased demand for the existing meeting facilities from medium businesses and large corporates for the same reason. It is a cost effective option for businesses that want to get away to undertake planning, negotiations and in many cases, team building. We expect more and larger groups to head to Terrace Downs once The Lodge is complete.”
“Another key attraction for this market is the access to a vast array of high country experiences such as hunting, ski-ing, jet-boating, fishing and hiking.”
The Lodge design, construction and fit-out will reflect the high country and will feature local river stone and cedar and be built in alpine style. Terrace Downs is a raw and vast experience that you can touch, see, hear, smell and feel – from the outside or in the warmth of the facilities.”
The principal contractor of The Lodge at Terrace Downs is C Lund & Son Ltd who is currently completing stage II of the Terrace Villas (due to open next month) and has also recently started stage III of the villa development. The stage I villas have been in high demand with guests since opening nine months ago.
