Good News for Domestic Tourism
Tourism needs to capitalise on every opportunity that helps stimulate visitor demand – especially if it reduces seasonality. The Tourism Industry Association New Zealand (TIANZ) sees opportunities for our tourism operators from increased domestic demand that will arise from the change in approach to Air New Zealand’s airpoints.
“One of tourism’s key priorities is to reduce the impact of seasonality so that we can offer a better framework for careers and investment and boosting off-peak domestic tourism is one way to achieve this.” says TIANZ Chief Executive, John Moriarty.
“By making loyalty programmes such as airpoints more accessible and easier to use New Zealanders will have greater opportunity to travel around the country and take advantage of the amazing tourism products the country has to offer throughout the year.
“Our tourism operators should take advantage of this
change and consider domestic growth as a means of adding
more value and resilience to their businesses. Our
neighbours over the Tasman have a domestic tourism market
that is over three times larger than their international
market and we might learn from this.” says Mr Moriarty.
