Entries Open for REINZ Property Journalism Awards

The search for this country’s top property news media is on again with the opening of entries for the New Zealand Property Journalism Awards, hosted by the Real Estate Institute of New Zealand.

The call for entries for the Awards, which are widely regarded as the premier acknowledgement of property journalism excellence, recognise news media across the entire real estate spectrum within categories including residential, rural, commercial and lifestyle property. This year’s Awards will also celebrate a significant milestone as the fifteenth year in which the competition has been held.

According to Real Estate Institute of New Zealand National President, Graeme Woodley, the Awards are a testament to the achievements of this country’s journalism field.

“Over the past 15 years we have witnessed property grow from something of a niche topic to one which has become an integral part of the New Zealand news media. The Awards have become a showcase for the impressive talents within this field and judging by the level of sophistication of entries in past years it will remain a tightly fought competition in 2004.”

The Award categories include Best Single Item for Residential, Commercial, Rural Property, Best Provincial Portfolio, Best Lifestyle Portfolio and Best Property Portfolio. The winner of the Best Property Portfolio will receive $2,000, in addition to the President’s Trophy, while the remaining category winners will be rewarded $500 for their achievements.

The judge for this year’s Awards is one of New Zealand’s leading business journalists, Terry Hall. Currently a columnist for the Sunday Star-Times, Mr Hall was the New Zealand correspondent for The Financial Times in London for 20 years and business editor of The Dominion. He is also a former New Zealand correspondent for Bloomberg and the former managing editor of Reuters Economic Services.

The call for entries will close on Friday 27 August 2004 at 5:00pm and winners will be announced by the Real Estate Institute of New Zealand in late October.
