Village SKYCITY Cinemas Announce New Cinema Development At Westfield Queensgate

Village SKYCITY Cinemas today announced an exciting new cinema complex development to open at Westfield Queensgate in 2005, offering more movie variety and revolutionising the cinematic experience for Lower Hutt and Wellington movie-goers.

The new nine-screen multiplex, the second new complex opened by Village SKYCITY Cinemas, is part of a $140 million redevelopment of the Westfield retail entertainment destination. The new multiplex will offer a total of 1722 seats, with seven mainstream movie auditoria, including a 360-seat “Mega-Screen” (large cinema screen) and two 40-seat premium Gold Class cinemas.

Village SKYCITY Cinemas Chief Executive, Joe Moodabe, says the new Lower Hutt complex will take the number of cinema screens in the Hutt Valley region from eight to a total of 17.

“This follows the agreement reached with Westfield in 1999 to integrate cinemas in shopping centres starting with Westcity and St Lukes in Auckland. Further, Village SKYCITY Cinema complexes are being developed in conjunction with Westfield Shopping Centre Destinations, scheduled to take place throughout New Zealand over the next few years,” says Mr Moodabe.

“As the country’s leading movie exhibitor, we’re thrilled to be able to offer the latest cinema experience to the Hutt Valley region and provide a much broader range of movie options at the same time.”

Village SKYCITY Cinemas at Westfield Queensgate will offer the latest in high tech projection, sound, screens and comfort levels with stadium seating and deluxe seats with double arm-rests. In addition movie-goers will experience unique new entertainment options with the larger format “Mega-Screen” which will predominantly screen blockbuster and special event movies. The more luxurious cinema option, of two Gold Class Cinemas will also be offered, providing the only dedicated luxury cinema experience in the country.
