Blanket Bay Gains Unprecedented World Best Rating

News Release from Blanket Bay

Blanket Bay Gains Unprecedented World's Best Rating

Glenorchy's Blanket Bay lodge has reinforced its position as one of the world's top resort hideaways for the third year in a row.

Blanket Bay has placed second, for the third year running, in the annual Andrew Harper's Hideaway Report survey of the top 20 International Resort Hideaways.

Billed as the connoisseur's worldwide guide to peaceful and unspoilt places and luxury hideaways, Andrew Harper's Hideaway Report is the ultimate authority on exclusive accommodation around the world.

The publication's annual readers survey is billed as the oldest, most reliable poll of its kind conducted among sophisticated frequent travellers.

In the Resort Hideaways list, featuring properties with fewer than 50 rooms, Blanket Bay is second only to Singita, a safari Lodge in South Africa.

"For Blanket Bay to retain its position as the second best international hideaway in the world is quite extraordinary for any property," said delighted Blanket Bay manager Philip Jenkins.

"It's very pleasing to maintain that position for three years in a row. I have to keep pinching myself."

Reflecting New Zealand's international appeal as a 'get away from it all' destination, Huka Lodge was listed seventh in the Resort Hideaways list, Wharekauhau tenth and Kauri Cliffs 18th.

Only Italy features the same number of properties in the list.

Mr Jenkins said the result was a great credit to New Zealand's accommodation providers.

"New Zealand now has a strong base of high end tourism accommodation and that is paying off in international recognition."

Readers also listed Blanket Bay in eighth place in the Top 20 of the International Resort Hotels poll, the only New Zealand property to feature in the hotels list. Australia's Lizard Island came in at number 13. It is also the third year that Blanket Bay has featured in the top ten of the International Resort Hotels poll.

The 23rd annual survey was published in the September 2004 issue of Andrew Harper's Hideaway Report.
