Ian Johnson Joins Fonterra Board As Independent Director

Fonterra Co-operative Group Ltd has appointed Australian professional director Ian Johnson to its board, pending ratification by shareholders at next month’s annual meeting.

Mr Johnson joins Fonterra’s 13-strong board as its fourth independent director, replacing Dr John Hood, who resigned in June ahead of his move to England. His appointment is for an initial term of three years.

A professional director since 1997, Mr Johnson is Chairman of Newcrest Mining Ltd and The Somerville Collection, a director of John Holland Holdings and a member of The University of Sydney Remuneration Committee. He is a former director of Leighton Holdings Ltd, Orogen Minerals Ltd and Email Ltd.

Mr Johnson is a geologist by training who from 1970 to 1996 worked for mining company CRA Ltd. He lives in Sydney and is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Fonterra Chairman Henry van der Heyden welcomed Mr Johnson’s appointment.

“Ian has an impressive track record at both executive and director level with major Australian companies. He has experience in Asia in both roles, and is well versed in global markets and pricing. I’m looking forward to working with him.”
