Westmere artists win Top Shop 2004 Award (for Giftware
and Homeware)
The New Zealand Retailers Association
has recently awarded Edge City the
Top Shop 2004
award for Giftware and Homeware. Edge City is the
gallery
outlet and workshop of artists Louise Rive
and Chuck Joseph, located in
Westmere, Auckland.
Louise and Chuck work on site producing New Zealand
inspired paintings and
ceramic art with images
ranging from Western Springs Lakeside in Auckland to
Hikurangi in Northland, from short tailed bats to pa sites.
The ceramic work is
created, glazed and fired on site
to stoneware temperature in a gas kiln.
"Edge City has
proven independent art and commerce is a successful
combination. We use oil painting on canvas, wood and carved
fired clay to
celebrate our view of the world."said
Louise Rive. " It is very pleasing that the selling of
genuine New Zealand product is being celebrated."
Edge City has been operating for 24 years and in early 2004
reopened
premises on the corner of Old Mill and
Garnet Roads Westmere.
The Top Shop Awards, which took
place on October 12th, are Auckland's
premier retail
event, which are held for the purpose of 'Promoting
Excellence in Retailing'. These awards recognise excellent
retailers in the
various retail categories and
provide a benchmark for retailers to aspire
to.
Other finalists in the 'Giftware and Homeware' category
included Stevens
Home and Giving (Botany Downs) and
Mango Alley (Browns Bay).
