Here Comes the Sun
P&O Cruises' latest Australasian-based cruise liner is now only days away from her new home in Sydney.
The 47,000 ton Pacific Sun has sailed through the Panama Canal and is on her way across the Pacific to Sydney, where she will claim the title of the biggest cruise ship ever based in Australasia year-round.
Sporting the colourful livery of her sister ship, Pacific Sky, now based in Brisbane, the 1,900-passenger Pacific Sun is scheduled to arrive in Sydney on Wednesday November 17. She departs on her sell-out maiden cruise the following day.
Pacific Sun's scheduled October 20 debut was postponed due to last month's unprecedented series of hurricanes in the Bahamas where she was undergoing a major $35 million refurbishment.
The new-look Pacific Sun offers innovations never before seen on a locally-based cruise ship, including queen-sized beds in all cabins, rollaway beds for families of five, a child-free sunbathing deck, an oyster, sushi and antipasto bar, a twisting two-storey water slide, two jacuzzis, nine bars and lounges, five restaurants and cafes, art auctions and multiple kids clubs for up to 300 children.
Her arrival will more than double the size of the Australasian cruise market, with more than 70,000 passengers travelling on her South Pacific and tropical north Queensland voyages every year.
