New Residential Care Organisation Formed

19 November 2004

Members of Residential Care New Zealand (RCNZ) voted unanimously today to support the formation of a new organisation with New Zealand Private Hospitals Association (NZPHA)

Residential Care New
Zealand (RCNZ) represents nearly 500 members in the aged care sector who run resthomes and private hospitals. The New Zealand Private Hospitals Association (NZPHA) represents nearly 200 members.

Simon O’Dowd the President of RCNZ says “I am excited about establishing a new organisation that will be ‘the voice’ and provide strengthened representation, advocacy and leadership in the sector”.

“This is an important step towards ensuring a stronger voice for the providers of residential care and private hospitals, their employees and our residents.”

“Currently the under-funding of the aged sector is crippling providers and keeping wages of caregivers and nurses at low levels – the new organisation will be in a better position to promote our common interests for the benefit of all New Zealanders”.
