AA PETROL WATCH – November 2004

2 December 2004

AA PETROL WATCH – November 2004

AA Petrol Watch has again shown that fuel prices continued to fluctuate at a high level during November, with the average nation-wide pump price for 91 Octane varying by 4 cents between 118 cents and 122 cents per litre. The average pump price for 96 Octane ranged between 123 and 127 cents per litre.

The importer margin for petrol remained constant between 12 and 13 cents per litre throughout the month, which was comparable with the average during 2004 of around 12.5 cents per litre.

Diesel prices also varied during the month, with the average pump price for this fuel varying between 80 and 83 cents per litre in most main centres.

The Association is very aware of a high level of concern from motorists that the most recent price increase in the past week took the pump price from 117.9 to 120.9 cents per litre for 91 Octane.

“The Association questions the need to increase fuel prices by this margin at a time when it is noted that the international price has actually been falling from previous very high levels and the exchange rate has been strengthening throughout the month” George Fairbairn, AA Director of Public Affairs said today.

“Motorists are seeking an explanation of the justification for this upward trend which is contrary to other reported information.”

AA Petrol Watch will continue to monitor fuel prices and report on them regularly.
