New Chair of Mighty River Power Board announced

Mighty River Power General Manager of External Affairs, Neil Williams today confirmed that the Minister for State-Owned Enterprises had accepted the resignation of Rob Challinor as Chairman of Mighty River Power, effective from 31 December 2004 and that Deputy Chair, Carole Durbin had been appointed as the new Chair from 1 January 2005.

Mr Williams also confirmed that current board members Sandy Maier, Tania Simpson and Ian Fraser have been reappointed for a further term. Mr Williams said that Mr Challinor’s retirement completed twelve years service in the electricity sector commencing as a director of ECNZ in 1992 until his appointment in December 1998 as Chair of the Waikato Interim Development Group which was the forerunner to Mighty River Power.

“Rob has made a tremendous contribution to the Company since its formation and his special capabilities as a Chairman were recognised in his nomination in November as one of the three finalists for the Deloitte Chairman of the Year award,” Mr Williams said. Carole has extensive experience in the electricity sector including as a director of Transpower and has been Deputy Chair of the Mighty River Power Board and Chair of the Audit committee since the Company began trading in April 1999.
