Key Harcourts Ponsonby Office Under New Ownership

Key Harcourts Ponsonby Office Under New Ownership

After 14 years for working his way up from sales to branch management with Harcourts, Simon Dew has just purchased Harcourts’ long-standing and successful Ponsonby office in Auckland. Mr Dew joined Harcourts as a sales consultant in 1991 and said he was immediately attracted to the group because of its training emphasis. “Back in 1991, Harcourts was the only real estate name advertising a training division and as a ‘chippie’ I knew training would be an important part of success.”

Mr Dew built on a successful sales career to qualify as a Branch Manager, gained his AREINZ industry qualification in 1995, and became an auctioneer two years ago. He said he had always intended working towards business ownership and added, “That’s the super thing about Harcourts, if you show ‘a bit of keen’ there’s a strong emphasis on giving everyone opportunities to progress.”

Having been part of the Ponsonby office for seven years, including as Branch Manager, Mr Dew is enthusiastic about the opportunities his office and the Harcourts brand offers the community. “Ponsonby is the best the suburb in Auckland – it’s vital, interesting and diverse, from century old villas to brand new properties with values right up into the millions.” He said due to the area’s popularity, the average property value was now around $600,000, with no shortage of buyers keen to join the popular suburb.

Harcourts Ponsonby has nine sales consultants working mainly in residential, which Mr Dew planned to double. He said his emphasis as Business Owner was to ensure everyone had the opportunity to work through the Harcourts Academy to reach their potential. “People sometimes think real estate is an easy job but there’s a lot to learn and it’s a real profession. The important thing is to use the systems and support Harcourts offers as well as the freely available expertise and support from other Harcourts offices,” which Mr Dew emphasised was another unique part of Harcourts’ culture.

CEO of Harcourts New Zealand, Bryan Thomson, said, “The success of our group is based on our ability to assist the growth and development of great people in our team and to provide them with opportunities to step up to new levels of responsibilities. Simon Dew is a perfect example of a long term team member doing just that. Well known for his skills and professionalism we know Simon will take this already successful office to new heights. We look forward to assisting Simon and his team achieve their goals.” …ends
