Free Energy Efficiency Boost For 1000+ Homes
Free Energy Efficiency Boost For More Than 1000 Homes
The Meridian Energy Saver Vans scheme will more than
double the number of homes it will provide with free energy
efficiency products this year, compared with last year.
The scheme starts this week in Christchurch, and has been expanded to include Oamaru, Dannevirke, and Waipukarau in the following weeks.
"The Energy Saver scheme is all about providing free practical help to households that will have a real payback,” says Meridian Energy spokesman Alan Seay.
Under the scheme, selected households are fitted with up to $400 worth of energy-saving products. These include energy-saving light bulbs, hot-water cylinder wraps and pipe lagging, door draught-stoppers and water-saving showerheads.
The Energy Saver teams will also check and reset if necessary the temperature of hot water cylinders. Householders will also be given a Meridian Energy brochure on what they can do to conserve energy and become more energy efficient.
Until now the scheme has only run in Christchurch where more than 2000 households have benefited from the energy efficiency programme over the past two years.
In Oamaru, 300 households will benefit from the scheme this year with 200 each in Dannevirke and Waipukarau, and another 500 in Christchurch.
The Christchurch homes have been selected by Community Energy Action Trust. In the other areas local councils and lines companies are helping Meridian identify which areas would benefit most from the free Energy Saver programme. All households will need to be Meridian Energy customers.
"Meridian Energy is committed to helping those on fixed and low incomes save power and keep warm this winter,” concludes Alan Seay.
