Kiwis Asked to Design
the Next Post-It Note
-- Can you extend on the sticky
yellow paper invention? --
3M New Zealand is offering Kiwis the chance to design the next Post--it Note.
All New Zealanders are being asked to celebrate the 25th birthday of Post--it by entering 3M's "Design the Next Post--it Note" regional competition, which is launching this month and running until 24 June. As well as winning prizes, there is the opportunity for one New Zealander to have their design created by 3M.
Designs can be of any shape, size, colour and pattern, but should reflect the innovators' local region in some way -- whether it's a town icon or a depiction of the landforms -- the options are endless.
Helen Bosley, Product Manager, 3M Office Markets, says the competition aims to uncover New Zealand's top Post--it Note innovator. The best design will be professionally made by 3M, so the national winner can give their creation to friends and family, and have lasting proof of their innovation.
"Originally invented by two 3Mers in 1980, the famous original creation has been constantly evolving since it hit the market in canary yellow, and this challenge is a fun way of including Kiwis in the anniversary celebrations.
"The Post--it Note has become one of the most loved and indispensable stationery items, having developed into more than 600 funky products used in 100 countries. Now 3M wants to see the unique creations New Zealanders are capable of," says Ms Bosley.
Ten regional winners from across New Zealand will be selected in late June 2005 by a panel of judges who will be looking for characteristics of creativity, optimism and light--hearted celebration of something great about the entrants' region.
From those ten winners, who will each receive a 3M and Post--it prize pack worth $200, one New Zealander will be awarded the grand prize -- a digital camera valued at $800. The national winner will also have their new design brought to reality by 3M, in the form of 500 genuine Post-it Note pads.
To enter the challenge people must send their creation, and a short description of the design and reason behind it -- along with their name, address and phone number -- to 3M's Design the Next Post--it Note Competition, PO Box 37--116, Parnell, Auckland by Friday 24 June 2005.
Entrants can either send in a mock--up of their design, or they can send a photo of how they envisage their design would look as a finished product.
