Barfoot & Thompson Appoints General Manager

10 May 2005

Barfoot & Thompson Appoints General Manager

Leading Auckland real estate firm Barfoot & Thompson has established a new position of General Manager and promoted Business Development Manager Wendy Alexander to take up the new role.

Wendy Alexander has more than 25 years’ real estate experience, including nine years with Barfoot & Thompson. She has been managing the company’s training, customer relations and human resources divisions as well as having responsibility for performance analysis and investigating growth opportunities.

The General Manager position is a first for the 83 year old family owned company. Barfoot & Thompson has and always will be run by Directors representing the Barfoot and Thompson families. The current Directors are Garth Barfoot, son of original founder Val Barfoot and Peter Thompson, grandson of Maurice Thompson.

Mr Thompson says that with 60 branches throughout Auckland and Northland and about 950 salespeople on the ground, it has been necessary to review the Head Office structure to ensure sufficient support is available at all levels.

“While we will continue our hands on role in guiding the firm and setting the overall strategic direction, the General Manager will be able to take some responsibility for implementation and following through on decisions.”

“Wendy is an outstanding Manager who applies herself 100 percent to her role. She is a very enthusiastic and dedicated executive who embodies Barfoot & Thompson’s values. Garth and I are delighted she has accepted this new role and look forward to the additional support she will be able to provide to the Directors.”
