Silencing the red army

June 22, 2005

Silencing the red army

The roar is being heard throughout the land as the British and Irish Lions continue on their tour of New Zealand.

And that's a good enough reason for Westfield Shopping Centres to want to help drown out the Barmy Army braggarts.

In centres from Glenfield in the north to Riccarton in the south, Westfield staff and retailers are gearing up for a gladiatorial contest with the red army.

Each centre has its own plans - and much of it comprises black and white.

Some of the things centres are up to include:
* urging retailers to feature black and white balloons or flags; * special purchase options and competitions; * transport links to Barmy Army venues; * staff dressed in black; * face painting, balloons and other giveaways for kids; and, * dressing the centre in rugby paraphernalia.
