Two old New Zealand registered cars are expected to fetch up to 27,000stg at Christie’s auction next week.
They are
part of the Sharpe family collection of cars, motorcycles
and automobilia from Essex which goes under the hammer on
June 30. A red and black 1923 Packard single-six
two-seater, registered in New Zealand as U81397AR, is
estimated to sell for about 20,000stg.
Packard was
the only one of America's three leading quality
manufacturers ('the 3 Ps') to make a significant impression
on the British market.
The other car is a famous old ‘Tin Lizzie’ 1924 Model T Ford Tourer which is expected to make 7000stg. The Ford is NZ registered number BL 3883.
The 'Tin Lizzie' was heralded in the days when Henry Ford was quoted as saying you could have any colour you liked 'as long as it was black'.
``The car wears an old New Zealand style number plate which presumably confirms its right hand drive configuration,’’ a Christie’s spokesperson said.
