New “World” magazine for those who appreciate the finer things in life


The launch of a new luxury lifestyle magazine titled “World” is tangible proof that life in New Zealand has changed to the point that people can appreciate and aspire to the finest things in life - without feeling guilty about it, according to Magazine Publisher Don Hope.

Mr Hope has more than 30 years experience in magazine publishing in New Zealand, Australia and South East Asia, including the creation and launch of the popular Fashion Quarterly magazine in 1980 and Golf magazine in 2000. However, he says it is only in 2005 that changes in society have made it okay for New Zealanders to openly enjoy luxury cars, travel and living.

He says World magazine is the ultimate expression of how life in New Zealand has changed for the better, with people being prepared to celebrate their success.

“After a number of years overseas, I have found being back in New Zealand tremendously inspiring because the country has changed so much during the past 20 years. I see opportunities made possible by New Zealand’s new global outlook.

“World magazine is primarily about luxury cars – the ones we own and the ones we dream about owning. It’s also about luxury lifestyles, and the content will showcase a carefully selected mixture of the finest restaurants, hotels and holiday retreats,” Mr Hope says.

Mr Hope says 25,000 copies of the magazine have already been sold to luxury car importers such as Mercedes, Porsche, Volvo, Ferrari and Maserati for distribution to their client base and the magazine will also be available at normal retail outlets from Monday 11 July.

“The advantage of pre-selling such a large number of copies is that advertisers can purchase advertisements with confidence, knowing that the magazine is going straight to their target audience,” he says.

Mr Hope says his new magazine will have a unique high quality look and feel, which is all due to the capability of a new web-based printing press owned by PMP (NZ) Limited. The press will print the glossy 256-page magazine on paper stock that is heavier and wider than that typically used in other magazines.

Mr Hope says the magazine has been a joint project, with the PMP team being involved in the development of the magazine from the initial concept.

“It has been special working with the PMP team, particularly as the first magazine I published in the late 1970’s, which evolved into Fashion Quarterly, was printed in the same plant in Christchurch,” he says.
