The opportunity to visit the haunted setting of Shakespeare's Macbeth, to kayak in the world's most spectacular fjord, retrace history's biggest volcanic eruption, sample Guinness in Dublin and cognac in...Cognac...are just some highlights of Princess Cruises' new 2006 Europe programme.

Next year's programme is the biggest-ever for Princess Cruises with four superliners providing a record 60 luxury cruises to 80 destinations in the Mediterranean, Scandinavia, British Isles, Baltic, Iceland and Egypt between April and November.

Celebrating its 40th birthday this year, Princess Cruises increases its capacity in Europe by 25 per cent in 2006 and provides more balcony cabins - 2,540 - than any other cruise fleet in the region. The 2006 programme also sees Princess provide an unprecedented 430 shore tours across Europe including a new Elite Collection of trips with exclusive and more intimate cultural and eco experiences.

The new shore tours include:

* A visit to Scotland's most haunted home, Glamis Castle - childhood home of the late Queen Mother and the legendary setting of Shakespeare's most famous tragedy, Macbeth.

* Kayaking between the vertical mountain walls of Norway's Geirangerfjord, described as the world's most beautiful fjord.

* Hiking on a volcano off Santorini in the Greek Islands - the site of the biggest eruption in history, which destroyed the Minoan civilisation in Crete in 1650 BC and gave birth to the story of Atlantis.

* Sampling the famous black stout at Dublin's Guinness brewery and learning the art of brandy making in Cognac in France.

* A classical concert and champagne reception in St Petersburg's famed Hermitage Museum.

* Exclusive access to newly excavated ruins of wealthy homes in the ancient Roman city of Ephesus, Turkey.
