New Appointments at NZ trade and enterprise

14 July 2005 - New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) has recently made a number of new appointments.

Peter Bull – Director, West America Peter Bull has been appointed as Director West America, based in Los Angeles. Peter has worked for NZTE since 2002, most recently as Sector Director, Food and Beverage.

He has worked internationally with major New Zealand corporates and has lived in both Chile and Papua New Guinea. Peter’s broad general management experience includes over ten years with ENZA and Zespri in New Zealand and a year with Chiquita-ENZA, a fruit exporting company in Chile.

At ENZA, Peter managed the commercial restructuring following deregulation of pipfruit marketing. He also negotiated supply and operated cool storage and logistics.

At Zespri, Peter led the global operations team, managing supply and distribution as well as implementing the environmentally safe kiwifruit production programme “Kiwigreen” and commercializing “Zespri Gold”. In Chile, Peter assisted implementing the merger between the Chiquita and ENZA subsidiaries as well as managing ENZA’s intellectual property. Peter has an MBA from Auckland University and an M Hort Sci (First Class Hons) from Lincoln University.

Peter Healy – Consul General and Trade Commissioner, Viet Nam Peter Healy was appointed to the position of Consul General and Trade Commissioner, Viet Nam in early April and is responsible for managing and developing New Zealand's Consular, Trade and Immigration services in Vietnam.

Peter has extensive experience in local and regional economic development and was previously a Group General Manger responsible for NZTE's regional development programme. Between 1997 and 2002 Peter was Trade Commissioner in New Delhi, accredited to India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan. He has a BA from Victoria University of Wellington and a Bachelor of Town and Regional Planning (BTP) from Auckland University. Peter is based at NZTE's Ho Chi Minh office.

Gina Lento – Director, East America Gina Lento has been appointed to the role of Director East America, based in New York. Gina has worked with NZTE since 2003 and has been involved in establishing the Auckland regional biotech cluster, the WCNZ Biotech Experts network, the ConnectNZ initiative, and coordinating Auckland University’s summer school course in BioEntrepreneurship.

In the private sector Gina has acted as Vice President Discovery for Protemix Corp, Lecturer and Research Fellow at Auckland University, and was involved in IP management including developing New Zealand's first student IP programme for tertiary institutes, drug development and regulatory affairs.

Gina also acted as a scientific specialist on New Zealands's delegation to the International Whaling Commission (a joint appointment by MFAT and DOC). Gina has a PhD in Molecular Evolution and Population Genetics and a BSc Hons (First Class) in Biochemistry, Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Graduate Scholar, both from Victoria University of Wellington.

Alex Matheson – Trade Commissioner, Singapore Alex Matheson has been appointed to the position of Trade Commissioner, Singapore. For the last year Alex has been NZTE's tourism sector project director, responsible for developing and implementing NZTE's overall engagement with the tourism sector. Prior to this he undertook various strategy development roles within NZTE and was Director of the CEO's office at the former Industry New Zealand.

Alex has worked as a management consultant both for himself and with a Wellington based consultancy, Burleigh Evatt. He has experience within a range of industries and Government departments and has also worked as an adviser to several Ministers.

Lisa-Marie Richan – Director, Strategic Relations Lisa-Marie Richan has been appointed to the new position of Director-Strategic Relations. Lisa-Marie is a former broadcast journalist, press secretary and government communications manager.

She has worked in private sector in-house roles, including Telecom New Zealand as a communications manager, as a consultant in Sydney and for pan-European clients based out of London.

Lisa-Marie came to NZTE from a role as Head of External Affairs, New Zealand Climate Change Office, and has previously worked in government for the Department of Labour, Ministry for the Environment and the New Zealand Customs Service.
