Coal miners’ talks resume

Coal miners’ talks resume

Mediated talks aimed at settling the long-running coal miners’ dispute will begin at 10.30am today.

Engineering, Printing & Manufacturing Union national secretary Andrew Little is on his way to Hamilton to join the negotiating team. Mr Little has not been directly involved in the negotiations up until now.

“This dispute has been dragging on for more than three months, and it’s time it was sorted out,” he said.

“There is no reason why, with goodwill and sensible heads on both sides, this dispute cannot be settled this weekend.”

The talks are expected to last two days.
