“Going All The Way For Fair Pay”

“NUPE health workers in the Canterbury District Health Board have given the Government an extra two weeks to come up with the funding for an offer to extend the revaluation of nurse’s pay to all health workers,” said Martin Cooney, Organiser with the National Union of Public Employees (NUPE) today.

“NUPE covers 500-600 CDHB funded staff including nurses, other clinical staff such as Occupational and Dental Therapists and Social Workers, and support staff such as clerical workers, maintenance trades staff, information services and cleaners throughout the CDHB. These staff work in teams across Princess Margaret, Hillmorton, Burwood, Christchurch Women’s’, and Christchurch and Ashburton Hospitals, and various other sites in Canterbury,” said Martin Cooney.

“After a mediation yesterday, delegates have decided to put back the strike from next week till the 12 to 16 September to give two week’s grace to the Government to fund low paid health workers as well as nurses and doctors. During that period NUPE members intend raising the issue in political arenas.”
