CentrePort Wellington Resolves Berthing Issue
23 August 2005
CentrePort Wellington is working closely with Toll New Zealand and has resolved the minor berthing issue associated with the inaugural Kaitaki Cook Straight ferry crossing.
Due to the unusually large size of the vessel, the port company is arranging for a purpose-built concrete ramp platform to be built to assist with berthing. Due to a tight construction market, it will not be ready until later this week however in the interim a temporary ramp is in place.
CentrePort Wellington has recommended the vessel be trimmed as required to lower the bow, a standard procedure for managing the drafts of large vessels.
CentrePort Wellington is working closely with Toll New Zealand to ensure smooth and incident free berthing.
A new purpose-built berth designed specifically for the Kaitaki at the Kaiwhara Ferry Terminal is due for completion in mid November.
