Sky Launches Food TV
Sky Launches Food Tv, New Zealand’s First And Only
Channel Dedicated Exclusively To Food
SKY Television has announced today that its mouthwatering new channel, FOOD TV, will begin broadcasting at 3pm on Tuesday 1 November 2005. Available to all SKY digital subscribers, on channel 38, FOOD TV is New Zealand’s first and only channel dedicated exclusively to food.
The channel will feature series hosted by celebrity chefs including Nigella Lawson, Rick Stein, Ainsley Harriott, and Jamie Oliver. In addition to the broad range of cooking shows, FOOD TV will also broadcast other food related programmes looking at everything from nutrition to ethnic food, wine and entertaining.
John McCready, CEO of The Living Channel and FOOD TV, says “We are delighted to be given the opportunity and challenge of providing SKY subscribers with this exciting new channel. The Living Channel is now in its 4th successful year on SKY; during that time the food genre on the channel has grown in popularity to the extent that the establishment of a separate channel for Food is a natural progression of our service and range of programmes for viewers.”
The separation of Food programming from The Living Channel will allow The Living Channel to show more travel, gardening, crafts, entertainment, woodwork, motoring magazine, real estate and housing shows.
SKY Television’s Director of Entertainment, Travis Dunbar says "FOOD TV is a great addition to SKY’s digital channel line-up. Similar channels, such as the FOOD NETWORK in the United States and UKTV Food in the United Kingdom enjoy very loyal and enthusiastic audiences.”
FOOD TV will be produced for SKY by The Living Channel New Zealand Limited who currently provide SKY with the popular and successful THE LIVING CHANNEL. The Living Channel New Zealand Limited is a joint venture between John McCready/JT Taylor and Touchdown Productions Limited.
