Martinborough wines go gold at Bragato
Vynfields' 2004 Classic Riesling – Gold Medal and Best in Class Riesling from the Bragato Wine Awards
Martinborough scooped the top Riesling awards at the Bragato Wine Awards held in Gisborne this last weekend. Martinborough organic vineyard, Vynfields, took the top award with a gold medal and the trophy for Best in Class Riesling. Te Kairanga also took a gold medal for their 2004 Riesling.
"Martinborough is known for its outstanding success across a broad range of varietals, and this shows its true colours with gold and silver medals for Riesling, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Pinot noir and Cabernet" said John Porter, chairman Wines From Martinborough.
"We're really delighted to get the recognition as it reflects our commitment to crafting high quality wines. It's also a great time to visit the winery and make the most of this spring weather which is perfect for pairing with Riesling" said Kaye McAulay, owner of organic vineyard Vynfields.
Bragato Wine Awards are unique in New Zealand in that they recognise the grapegrowers, the vineyard and excellence in viticultural practice. The annual Romeo Bragato Conference was held in Gisborne last week.
