The New Zealand Institute of Management, Central Inc announced Therese Walsh, General Manager Corporate Services, New Zealand Rugby Union, as the regional winner of the Young Executive of the Year Award at a breakfast function today.

Therese took out the prestigious award among a total of 12 finalists from the central region.

In her role with the NZRU Therese participates fully in the executive team, coordinating directing and leading the organisation’s corporate service functions including finance, information technology, legal services, communications, public relations, human resources, board support, office management and major strategic and risk-management initiatives. Therese is responsible for 35 of the NZRU’s 80 head-office staff.

Therese also has periodic responsibility as acting CEO for the organisation, and is the first woman and youngest ever executive to have held such a position of responsibility for New Zealand’s national game.

Therese will progress to the finals of the Institute of Management Young Executive Award in Auckland on 1 December 2005 to be held with the Deloitte/Management Top 200 Awards. She will be up against candidates selected from Auckland, Canterbury and Otago.

The Young Executive Award was established in 1994 and is seen by many as a passport to a successful career in senior management. It is awarded to men and women under 35 who have a proven track record of high performance, a strong management style, financial and strategic impact on their workplace, and who are prepared to embrace emerging technologies and practices and search out new opportunities.
