Maori TV Response To Metiria Turei Statement

Maori Television Response To Metiria Turei Statement

Maori Television Chief Executive Jim Mather makes the following statement:

Maori Television rejects the claims being made by Metiria Turei regarding its employment practices. Ms Turei is uninformed and her comments are without foundation, inflammatory and deliberately misleading.

Maori Television has conducted a comprehensive internal investigation into breaches of confidentiality, trust, and the Māori Television Code of Conduct. Our investigation unearthed compelling evidence that required appropriate action. That action was taken. The evidence that has been discovered will be released in the proper forum and at the appropriate time, should that be required.

Had this action not been taken, the management of Māori Television would have failed in its duty and I as Chief Executive would have been negligent in my responsibilities to the organisation. Maori Television has adhered strictly to employment practices and processes on this matter.

Ms Turei’s claims that Maori Television “fires staff on a whim, without engaging them properly in dispute resolution processes” is entirely without foundation.

Maori Television will not accept disloyalty from any staff members, and will act in the best interests of Maori Television no matter the circumstances or people involved.
