Mighty River Power sponsors powerful community celebration
Mighty River Power is joining forces with Palmerston North City Council to celebrate one of the region’s strongest natural assets – the wind.
The electricity generator and retailer has been announced as a sponsor of the inaugural Airstream Festival being held in the city on 14 and 15 October.
Palmerston North Mayor Heather Tanguay says Airstream is one of a series of planned events designed to bring the community and business together to celebrate the region’s natural assets.
“We are delighted to have Mighty River Power support us in bringing a range of fun and thought-provoking activities and events celebrating the recreation and sustainable energy potential of wind.
“There’s something for everyone to enjoy and learn from including a celebrity debate, a symposium on sustainable energy, a skydiving display, a Guinness World Record kite flying attempt and a special screening of Gone with the Wind.”
Mighty River Power General Manager External Affairs Neil Williams says the company is delighted to be involved with the event which will raise awareness of wind as an electricity generation option.
He says the event is timely given the recent announcement that Mighty River Power will work with the Palmerston North City Council to investigate wind electricity generation potential at a Council-owned reserve at Turitea.
Mr Williams says Mighty River Power’s commitment to wind generation is part of its strategy of looking at a wide range of fuel sources for generation to help meet New Zealand’s long-term energy demand requirements.
