AA Driver Education Targets Work Place Driving

Through a series of nationwide workshops being held next week, AA Driver Education Foundation is setting out to improve workplace driver behaviour and ultimately reduce the high number of work related deaths in car accidents.

Peter Sheppard, AA Driver Education Foundation’s Chief Executive, says that it is timely to recognise driver concerns and encourage the workplace to be more proactive in this area.

“Work related fatalities resulting from car accidents are New Zealand’s highest incidence of workplace deaths. Apart from the social impact on families and the community, these deaths and injuries and other resulting costs severely impact on businesses and the economy at large.”

“This is a pertinent issue in the current climate of rising fuel costs, increased traffic congestion problems and a concern for safety. There is potential to reduce costs from safer and better economical driving styles.”

“Causal factors of work related car accidents are linked to a range of driving behaviours and systematic factors directly associated with organisational safety culture and operating policies,” he said.

AA Driver Education, supported by ACC, is holding three one-day driver education workshops next week in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.

- Christchurch, Thursday October 27th, Latimer Hotel, 30 Latimer Square, Christchurch

- All workshops run from 8am – 5pm
