Pukana
Presents 2005 Primary Schools Kapa Haka
Competition
Popular Maori language children’s television show PUKANA will screen the top four groups from the 2005 National Primary Schools Kapa Haka Competition on Maori Television (Fri Oct 28 and Fri Nov 4 at 5.00 PM).
Nearly 30 of the nation’s top primary and intermediate schools competed at the annual event held in Tauranga earlier this month (October).
PUKANA producer/presenter Matai Smith says he was extremely impressed with the high standard of competition this year.
“The event just gets bigger and bigger every year and I cannot believe some of the sights and sounds these young kids are producing today,” Matai Smith says.
“Some of the performances are beyond their years and are, in fact, right up there with some of the secondary school and senior kapa haka teams.”
Over the next two weeks, PUKANA will feature the ‘winning’ performances from the top four teams.
Te Wharekura o Ruatoki (fourth) and Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Bernard Fergusson (third) will screen first on Maori Television this Friday October 28 at 5pm.
Second placegetters Te Wharekura o Rakaumangamanga and the overall winner, Te Kura o Manutuke, will go to air on Friday November 4 at 5pm.
This special episode will also offer viewers the chance to win a Sony 21’ television through the 0800 PUKANA toll free phone line.
Catch PUKANA at the 2005 National Primary Schools Kapa Haka Competition on Maori Television this Friday October 28 and Friday November 4 at 5.00 PM.
