Mayson elected President of Export New Zealand

28 October, 2005

Mayson elected President of Export New Zealand

Jon Mayson, the chief executive of the Port of Tauranga, has been elected President of the National Board of Export New Zealand, taking over from the immediate Past President, Murray Davies.

Mr. Mayson, who steps aside at the end of this year after nine years as Chief Executive of New Zealand's largest export port, has had a long association with Export New Zealand.

"Exports are the lifeblood of the New Zealand economy. If we don't invest in building our exports we face the prospect of a slide in our living standards.

"What I'm hoping to do as President is to keep on with the processes of spreading these messages to the wider export and business community. As a country we must continue to lift our economic performance if we want to live in a country that is thriving."

Export New Zealand's annual meeting this month saw Ken Penniall and David Binning elected as Vice-Presidents. Mr. Penniall is also President of the Auckland Region.

Other Regional Presidents are: Terry Blackler (Waikato), Rob Jeffrey (Bay of Plenty), Colin Carr (Wellington) and Jim Grennell (Canterbury). The New Zealand Consultancy Representative is Paul Harper and Chair of the International Trade and Transport Committee is Gilbert Ullrich.
