No kids at work, says Fairfax
Workers at the Fairfax-owned Hutt News in Wellington will stage industrial action from 3pm today in protest over the company’s sudden refusal to allow children to come into the workplace.
Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union national secretary Andrew Little said that the company had revoked a long-standing practice of staff doing overtime being able to bring their children into the office.
“It was a practical solution to a common problem – how can workers with family responsibilities help the company out by doing extra hours?” he said.
Mr Little said that the workers and the company were engaged in an on-going pay dispute that had also seen the workers take industrial action.
