for Immediate Release
Pinetree Stands Tall this Week on New Zealand’s Top
100 History Makers
Last night on Prime’s new local history programme, New Zealand’s Top 100 History Makers, All Black legend Colin Meads was named New Zealand’s 17th most influential kiwi of all time.
The ranking was decided by a panel of eight who have cast a Top 100 list of the greatest people in our recorded history.
Colin “Pinetree” Meads was perhaps our toughest All Black of all time, with a career spanning 14 years and 55 test matches. He once broke his arm during a match, only to play on. He was heard muttering afterwards; “At least we won the bloody game”.
Sports journalist Joseph Romanos, who was one of the eight responsible for formulating the list, stated last night; “There have been other All Blacks as good as Colin Meads, but no one ever epitomised pride in the All Black jersey like he did”.
Five episodes have screened so far and some contemporary figures included in the ranking to date are actor Russell Crowe at 100, David Lange at 43, and Peter Jackson at 14.
The number one New Zealander of all time will be revealed next week, Thursday 10 November, with a People’s Choice vote being decided in a live finale on Thursday November 17.
Tune into New Zealand’s Top 100 History Makers, every Thursday night at 7.30pm on Prime.
