A New New World For Kaikohe

A New New World For Kaikohe

Foodstuffs (Auckland) Limited says it is going to replace its New World Kaikohe store which was destroyed by fire yesterday.

"We will definitely continue to have a presence in Kaikohe," says Foodstuffs general manager retail operations Graham Fabian.

He says whether it is on the same site or another has yet to be decided and depends on a number of factors, including land availability and the insurance situation.

"We are working through all the insurance details at the moment, but what's most important is making sure our staff are looked after."

He says a meeting has been held with staff and they will be meeting with them again next week to confirm all the details of the insurance cover.

"All the other Foodstuffs stores in the region have put up their hands to assist wherever possible and we are doing everything we can to mitigate the situation for staff, including making a counsellor available for them."

Mr Fabian says it's too early to put a value on the stock losses, but they are working with the insurance company's assessors at the moment.

He expects to have a decision on whether the store will re-open on its current site or another in the next few months.

Foodstuffs operates the PAK'nSAVE, New World and Four Square brands and all stores are locally owned and operated.
