5% win at Irwins
Workers at the Irwin Industrial Tools plant in Warkworth are the latest to win a five per cent pay rise.
Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union national secretary Andrew Little said that the union’s 180 members at the plant had voted to ratify a settlement which included a five per cent pay rise.
“The company started out offering what was effectively a 2.5 per cent rise, but the workforce hung together and achieved a good settlement,” he said.
In August, the workers struck for 24 hours in protest over the company’s offer.
Mr Little said that some 16,500 EPMU members had won pay rises of five per cent or more since the union launched the Fair Share – Five in ‘05 campaign on February 27.
The new agreement at Irwin Industrial Tools has a 15-month term.
