Big phone savings Woosh into Wellington and Christchurch

Households and small businesses in Wellington and Christchurch stand to make big savings on the cost of telephone services as telecommunications provider Woosh Wireless begins to roll out its phone packages in the two centres this week.

The new wireless phone service gives subscribers free local calling, with all national calls and international calls to 35 destinations costing a flat rate of 10c per minute. Voicemail and caller display services will come at no extra charge.

Residential and small business customers requiring up to two phone lines can get them from just $20 per month on top of their existing Woosh broadband plans, which start at $29.95 a month.

Woosh Chief Executive Bob Smith says the arrival of Woosh phone services in Wellington and Christchurch follows the successful launch of the service in Auckland in September.

“We have got off to a flying start in Auckland, with our customers chalking up 65,000 minutes of calls in the first month.

“Our phone and broadband plans represent savings of up to 50 percent on similar packages of services from other providers.

“This is another very significant milestone for the company.”

An advantage of the Woosh phone service is that it is simple to install, connecting directly to a standard or cordless telephone and customers can take their existing Telecom number with them.

As with Woosh broadband, portability is another significant advantage of the new phone service. Customers changing address within areas of Woosh coverage can simply take their phone and broadband services with them.

In the coming weeks the company also plans to launch its phone services in Southland, where it has been rolling out a wireless network with Venture Southland.
