Regal Marlborough Dips Recalled

Following on from the recall notice issued last week for 14 pottles of Regal Marlborough Salmon Natural Dip, The New Zealand King Salmon Company has announced the recall today of all Regal Marlborough Salmon Dips.

Once alerted to the possibility of some Listeria monocytogenes contamination in a particular batch of which limited quantities were recalled last week, we immediately sought testing of all remaining dip batches that remained in stock said Chief Executive Paul Steere.

The early indicators from the independent laboratory suggested further possibilities of Listeria and while the type of Listeria has yet to be confirmed, we have taken the step to recall all dips that are in the market or have not been consumed, said Mr Steere.

The company has taken this step as a generic safeguard to remove any doubt in the minds of consumers as to the possibility of contamination, no matter how remote that risk is or indeed if it exists.

We have decided not to wait for confirmation and advised all resellers to withdraw dips and ask consumers to return unused dips for full refund.

We expect this would affect a limited number of pottles with use by dates subsequent to yesterday’s date (08 Jan06) but again, to be sure, we will refund against all pottles that may have expired use by dates but have not been consumed.

These dips are made under contract by a 3rd party dip processor and we are undertaking a comprehensive audit of that party’s manufacturing process.

This action does not affect any other fresh, frozen or smoked salmon products produced by the company, which are always subject to stringent controls plus independent checking for contaminants, and enjoy the highest possible standard of food safety, concluded Mr Steere.

Consumers should not be alarmed by the wider recall now announced. We stress that we have taken a wider cautionary approach to remove any element of doubt.
