First Reported Security Casualty For 2006
Press Release: First Reported Casualty For 2006
A
security officer was assaulted while conducting patrols near
Christchurch Airport, the New Zealand Security Officers
Association reported today.
The security officer approached two men in a car park while on patrol on Orchard Rd during the Christmas/New Year period and was struck on the head by one of the men.
It is understood that the assault took place while her colleague was guarding a secure complex. The security officer eventually made her way back to the secure compound where she raised the alarm.
It is believed that the security officer failed to call for backup before approaching the men.
A spokesperson for the New Zealand Security Officers Association said today, “It is about time security supervisors and managers recognised the grave risks involved with sending untrained or incompetent staff into high risk situations in which they may be required to manage violent incidents.”
“Failure to recognise such risks can only be seen as irresponsible and foolhardy,” he said.
