New Carpark For Auckland Int'l Airport
New Carpark For Auckland Int'l Airport
Construction has commenced on a new, four-level car park at Auckland Airport. The building, located opposite the domestic terminals, will house 850 car parks as well as car rental facilities.
The building will open for public use in June 2006 and users will be able to access both the Air New Zealand and Qantas domestic terminals via a covered foot bridge crossing the road in front of the two terminals. Construction costs are expected to be $15 million.
Airport chief executive, Don Huse, says that the car parks will provide covered car parking in close proximity to the terminals, "This is the second multi-level car parking building to be constructed at the airport, but is the first of its size. This reflects the need for more car parks closer to the terminals and the demand for greater options in car park products.
"The needs and comfort of our customers were given priority in our decision-making on this project."
Construction of the car park will increase the number of public spaces available on airport to nearly 8,500.
This development is part of a broader upgrade of the domestic terminal area which the company and its airline partners are reviewing at this stage. Current options being considered include a renovation of the Air New Zealand domestic terminal, changes to the Qantas domestic forecourt and a new retail precinct linking both terminals."
