Excelebration: Taking Time To Celebrate

Excelerator brings together its growing ‘leadership community’

Auckland, 26 January 2006 – With its four core leadership development programmes now under way, Excelerator: New Zealand Leadership Institute is celebrating progress at “Excelebration”, a function which brings together over 100 of these leaders and marks the start of a new leadership network.

The four leadership development programmes offered by Excelerator span diverse areas of the New Zealand leadership domain. Both the Future Leaders, a group of young people from across the country, and Corporate, people who are leaders within multiple layers of a large New Zealand organisation, are almost a year into their programmes.

The Hillary programme, whose participants are senior executives from a broad base of profit and nonprofit organisations, and Community, individuals who are leaders from across the Kaipara region, have been initiated more recently and are excited at joining this growing national leadership community.

Excelerator Chief Executive, Dr Lester Levy says the development of the programmes over the last year has been an outstanding success and Excelebration is the embodiment of our desire to celebrate these successes and recognise the passion and commitment of all the participants.

The 18 month programme is only the beginning for these leaders. To build a strong and active leadership community which incorporates the participants from all the Excelerator programmes is integral to inspire and support their future activities. Some surprising links within this community have already been discovered such as mother and daughter duo Maggie and Ella Lawton.

Ella is one of the 57 future leaders who started the programme in March last year and says that she is looking forward to supporting her mother Maggie when she starts the Hillary leadership programme in February. “I am excited for her as I know some of the incredible experiences that she is going to have over the next eighteen months and I would love to be able to support her in that learning”.

Excelerator is a national leadership research and development institute committed to enhancing the understanding of leadership and taking action to ensure the country has creative and talented leaders and outstanding leadership. Excelerator is supported by a number of partners including The University of Auckland Business School Westpac, the Tindall Foundation, DB Breweries, Bell Gully, Deloitte, Hudson and Sleepyhead.
